Transportation Structure Inspection and Program Manager Services

Various Clients

OBJECTIVE

Counties and municipalities require bridge inspection services to ensure the safety and integrity of their infrastructure. Regular inspections help identify structural deficiencies, potential hazards, and maintenance needs, enabling proactive measures to mitigate risks and ensure public safety. Additionally, these services are essential for regulatory compliance, meeting the standards set by organizations like the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and state transportation departments.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc. (HLR) specializes in conducting Structural Inspections adhering to the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and the guidelines set forth by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), specifically the Structure Information and Procedure Manual and the Structural Services Manual. Our inspection portfolio encompasses a variety of types, including Initial, Routine, In-Depth, and Special inspections, with potential for Underwater, Damage, Load Rating, Fracture Critical, or Element Level inspection elements. Each inspection process entails the meticulous completion of IDOT inspection forms, alongside the compilation of comprehensive photo logs and detailed descriptions to ensure full compliance with both NBIS and IDOT requirements.

Beyond the basic compliance, HLR prides itself on offering customized Inspection Reports that surpass the foundational requirements of NBIS and IDOT. These reports are meticulously tailored to meet the specific needs and financial constraints of our clients. They encompass a wide range of critical information, including inspection methodologies; an inventory of construction and repair histories; exhaustive structure descriptions and current load ratings; and appraisal details for approach roadways, railings, deck protection methods, signage, pavement markings, and clearances. Additionally, our reports provide in-depth condition assessments, highlighting historical structure ratings and summarizing the condition of various components such as approach roadways, structure barriers, joints, wearing surfaces, decks, superstructures, and substructures, with concise, bulleted observations. The conclusion of our reports delivers decisive recommendations, pinpointing major deficiencies and proposing both immediate and long-term remedial actions for each evaluated structure. Where necessary, appendices include sketches and cost estimates for further clarification and planning.

The effectiveness of our inspection services is significantly enhanced by our Program Management services, which play a crucial role in ensuring timely completion of inspections. Our Program Managers leverage IDOT databases to extract the most current information relevant to a client’s inventory, enabling them to offer informed recommendations on program necessities and forthcoming inspection schedules.

Over the past several years, HLR has had the privilege of conducting inspections for various agencies.
