Section Corner Surveys

Kane County GIS Department

OBJECTIVE

Kane County requested the establishment of section corners on the exterior boundary of the County for use in GIS mapping. Many of the original corners and tie points had been obliterated, and most did not have existing monument records.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

HLR re-established section corners along the Cook, DuPage, Kendall, DeKalb, and McHenry County lines. The project included the verification or preparation of monument records for 154 section corners.  In addition, USGS State Plane Coordinates were provided for each corner for use in GIS mapping.  The cadastral survey required using the instructions for the restoration of monuments of the Public Land Survey System.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Re-established section corners along multiple county lines (Cook, DuPage, Kendall, DeKalb, and McHenry), ensuring accurate land boundary demarcation
  • Verified or prepared monument records for 154 section corners, ensuring the documentation of important survey data
  • Provided USGS State Plane Coordinates for each corner, facilitating the use of GIS mapping technology for precise location referencing
  • Implemented the instructions for the restoration of monuments of the Public Land Survey System, ensuring compliance with established standards and protocols for cadastral surveys
