OBJECTIVE

Maintaining the operational integrity of critical traffic signal railroad interconnect systems in the Village of Glenview.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Since 2017, HLR's Traffic Engineering Department has been providing daily remote monitoring services for five intersections in the Village of Glenview: Harlem Avenue and Dewes Street, Harlem Avenue and Glenview Road, Glenview Road and Washington Street, Glenview Road and Church Street, and Chestnut Road and Lehigh Avenue. Three of these intersections are equipped with railroad interconnects, making their proper operation critical.

The team conducts thorough reviews of traffic controller alarm logs, detector diagnostics, and preemption system events to ensure the traffic signal systems operate correctly. Additionally, traffic signal timings are checked daily to verify the absence of unauthorized changes. Should any abnormal events be detected, our traffic department coordinates troubleshooting with the Village’s on-call electrical maintenance contractor, the equipment vendor, and Village staff to swiftly address and resolve the issue at hand.
