Golf Road Pump Station

Illinois Department of Transportation

OBJECTIVE

The Illinois Department of Transportation wanted to provide additional drainage along Golf Road in Des Plaines to alleviate some of the flooding experienced in the past due to the railroad underpass.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Our team began with a topographic survey, which included a detailed tree survey and boundary determination. Additionally, sewer televising was performed on the existing drainage infrastructure and outlet to the Des Plaines River to ensure the satisfactory condition of the pipes and structures. The existing stormwater system was evaluated both hydrologically and hydraulically, including tributary area delineation, to determine the current capacity and identify areas for improvement.

A proposed system was developed to address these findings. It includes the construction of additional berms to decrease flooding frequency, the implementation of a collection and conveyance system along the roadway, and the enhancement of the pump station capacity by removing a constriction within the outlet pipe. Furthermore, the scope of the project involves relocating the pump station driveway entrance to allow access during larger flooding events.
