Village of Wayne City
HLR was involved with the Wayne City Water Treatment Plant Project from the beginning, from writing the Preliminary Engineering Report, securing funding through USDA Rural Development, and permitting, to obtaining design approval. Our team provided full-time construction engineering services throughout the project, as well as construction staking and material testing. We also worked closely with Village staff and their preferred chemical supplier to find solutions to the treatment needs that offer a balance between safety and effectiveness. Through effective collaboration, the team found solutions such as using a carbon that can be delivered in slurry form rather than using bags of powder, thus eliminating a common risk of explosion.
The plant serves two community water systems in addition to the Village of Wayne City, and PLC-based SCADA communication equipment that allows the plant operator to monitor the storage tanks remotely. All nine of the pumps in the plant are controlled by individual variable frequency drives, which not only allow for significant energy savings every year, but also gives the operator the ability to fine-tune the plant as needed.
