Salem Drive – Weathersfield Way to Schaumburg Road

Village of Schaumburg

OBJECTIVE

This federally eligible Phase I roadway reconstruction project is evaluating cross-section alternatives to determine the most feasible solution for addressing the needs of residents, roadway users, and the Village. Currently, the existing bike lanes on Salem Drive also function as parking lanes within the project limits. HLR's task was to identify the optimal method of separating these two types of roadway users without widening the pavement or negatively impacting the numerous mature trees along the corridor.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The scope of work includes a topographic survey, wetland screening, tree survey, Preliminary Environmental Site Assessment, sewer televising, traffic and crash analyses, drainage design, preparation of several geometric alternatives to determine the optimal lane geometry compared to existing conditions, Project Development Report, and a public meeting. The project has been processed as a State Approved Categorical Exclusion.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Separation of the parking and bike lanes
  • Reconstruction of Salem Drive pavement
  • Addition of off-street multi-use path
