Bode Road and Springinsguth Roadway Improvements

Village of Schaumburg

OBJECTIVE

Portions of Bode Road and Springinsguth Road had deteriorated and required upgrades to much of the infrastructure so Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc. (HLR) was brought in to provide Phase II design engineering services. Due to the current condition of both roadways, the Village was looking to have the projects completed in an expeditious manner.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Village of Schaumburg contracted with HLR to develop plans and specifications for the Bode Road and Springinsguth Road projects.  The two separate projects were included separately on the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) funded project list. Both projects consisted mainly of resurfacing with spot repair of curb and gutter and ADA sidewalk improvements. The work also included coordination with subconsultants for subsurface exploration and inspection of storm and sanitary sewer.

Although the RFP put out by the Village was only for Phase II engineering, a kick-off meeting with IDOT resulted in the Village being required to complete additional Phase I engineering as part of the project. This included a full Project Development Report, additional traffic counts, and signal warrants of adjacent intersections with county and state routes. The additional Phase I work also resulted in the need to complete a Preliminary Environmental Site Assessment (PESA), Preliminary Site Investigation (PSI), and IEPA 663 due to Potentially Impacted Properties within the project limits. During project development it was also discovered that the Village’s record of right-of-way throughout both corridors was inaccurate requiring ROW verification. It was also discovered that a portion of the project was within adjacent municipal limits, requiring additional coordination and funding breakdowns.

Phase I and II plans are in final development and being submitted in early 2022 for a June IDOT letting.

Construction Cost: $3.3M (estimated)
